Today we're introducing Stoify Media Reader: a provider-aware workflow for turning a supported product barcode or media title into a confirmed, store-ready product.
Start with the item, not a blank form
Open Media Reader from Products and the camera starts immediately. Barcode detection covers common EAN, UPC, GTIN, ISBN, and GS1 product identifiers. Open Facts handles general products, Open Library handles low-volume ISBN discovery, and Discogs remains the preferred source for exact CDs, vinyl, cassettes, DVDs, and other physical releases when configured.
The sources run independently and each result shows where it came from. Product candidates include brand, category, quantity, and type; books include author and publisher; media candidates keep pressing-level format, label, country, year, and barcode details.
Keep title recognition private
For media without a useful barcode, title detection runs locally in the browser. Camera frames are neither uploaded nor persisted. The reader ranks the strongest text regions and sends only the resulting title query to Discogs. If Discogs is not configured, barcode and ISBN lookup remain available and the title OCR engine stays unloaded.
Confirm before anything is imported
Media Reader never auto-imports a provider result. Select the matching candidate, check its attribution and catalogue details, then choose the store-specific price, SKU, category, status, warehouse, and initial stock. Discogs community pricing remains available for media releases, while providers without pricing require a deliberate amount.
Imported products retain the provider, detected product type, barcode, source URL, image, attribution, and provider metadata in the same product workflow used across Stoify.
Unknown does not mean blocked
When no provider recognizes a valid barcode, the reader keeps the decoded code visible. Scan another item immediately or open the normal new-product form with that code already placed in the SKU field.
